Kelvin Hau, MSW, RSW

  • Kelvin is a registered social worker with over 11 years of experience in mental health and social support services.

His career began alongside refugees and immigrants, whose experiences prompted him to reflect on his own stories of self-doubt, shame, and setbacks. This led him to pursue a Master of Social Work degree in clinical practice, deepening his understanding of how both personal and societal narratives shape our lives.

As a mental health therapist, Kelvin has supported unhoused Calgarians navigating trauma, grief, addiction, and systemic oppression. He now works in urgent mental health at Recovery Alberta, where he provides single-session therapy to individuals and families, conducts mental health assessments, and supervises MSW trainees. This work has shaped his ability to be intentional about what each session requires, meeting people exactly where they are. Kelvin is also a designated Capacity Assessor for the Office of the Public Guardian in Alberta.

Kelvin views his therapy practice as a way to honour and pay forward the support he once received from friends, family, and professionals during his own experiences with anxiety and depression. Over these years, he has developed a particular clinical interest in working with helpers and givers — those who feel pressured to do more, struggle with boundaries, and hesitate to say “yes” to themselves. He offers a gentle and accepting space, integrating narrative therapy, ACT, CBT, and DBT to help them heal.

Outside of work, Kelvin finds joy by the ocean and in the mountains, savouring good food with family and friends, and dreaming of his next adventure abroad with Sylvia. These experiences help him move towards his values of freedom and peace, which he brings into the therapy space he holds for others.
